About this artwork
Draw forty black and grey charcoal lines, leave 39 spaces, and ensure that one of the lines or one of the spaces is not your own idea, but an idea borrowed from another artist's work. Then fluidly add in three blue ink lines. And here we have Something Borrowed, Something Blue. I drew it in landscape, but on returning to the work I now prefer it in portrait format. You may prefer it rotated again to get a different energy. It is signed on the back so you are free to choose, and to change your mind.
About this artist
I focus mostly on observations of people and abstraction of places. I am noted for powerful life and figure drawings. Are You Ready? was selected for Oxford Art Society Open Exhibition and won the Broad Canvas prize in 2024. My first submission to OAS Open Exhibition, Because of Sarah (charcoal drawing) was selected 2021. I have since experimented with coloured and mixed media. Midas was selected for OAS Open Exhibition in 2023; Not Quite Edna was exhibited at OVADA in 2024. I am extending my painting to include bold and abstracted landscapes and seascapes. Blenheim Coastline #3, was exhibited at Mood, Ovada Artweeks Exhibition 2023, and When I Dream, I Swim was also selected for the OAS Open Exhibition in 2023. I have no formal art qualifications but since 2016 I have benefitted from teaching at OVADA, Art Sauce, and by various OAS members and Oxfordshire artists. Also, by Rob Unett of Newlyn SOA, Sarah Simblett of Ruskin SOA and Jake Spicer from Draw Brighton. I regularly attend life drawing groups, the Beckley Art Group, and The Art Society Oxford talks on fine art. I try to sketch most days, and visually ‘eavesdrop’ on people in their daily routines.
