Hurst Street Press present IRIS

Tuesday 26 April 2016, 7-9pm

Join OVADA studio-holders, Hurst Street Press for a look at how the first edition of the collective’s recent publication, IRIS, was made. The evening event will include a selection of photography and the comix and sculptures, as well as experiments in paper, and risographing and the various breakdown of printing, design and binding. The Hurst Street Press studio will also be open, where the artists, poets and writers will talk to about their work.

IRIS is a collaboration of original poetry, prose and visual art, providing a physical space for contemporary interpretations of the theme ‘Sense of Place’. A catalyst for dialogue between artists and writers alike, IRIS aims to foster a artistic encounter and discourse between its generically diverse contributions; whether fictional or not, visual or written, we aim to make the works conspire with, and complement, one another.

IRIS will run for three editions, equally spaced throughout 2016, and limited to a single print run of 300 per edition. Printed and distributed within Oxford, the physical construction embodies the thematic focus; IRIS is both borne from and anchored to a specific locale.

The physical product is printed using a mixture of letterpress and risograph, hand-stitched, and bound in Tinted Bockingford (blue) with a hand-marbled band. Each of the 300 copies is unique, and publications will be on sale at the event.
