On 26 November, OVADA studio-holders Hurst Street Press will be hosting a launch party for the second edition of IRIS. Intended as both a celebration of their contributors’ talents and a chance for readers to engage in discussion and debate, the launch will feature live music, readings, drinks and visual art on display.
IRIS is a collaboration of original literature and visual art, including poetry, fiction and criticism. It aims to create a space for interdisciplinary artistic dialogue and to enact the interaction between creator and audience. Printed at OVADA using letterpress and risograph, IRIS celebrates traditional techniques of book production whilst fostering contemporary and innovative work. Like IRIS I, the second edition will be hand-bound and have an individual marbled slip as well as being limited to a print run of three hundred copies. Continuing the theme from the previous edition, IRIS II will feature contemporary and generically diverse interpretations upon ‘Sense of Place’.
As before, there will be a corresponding exhibition displaying the visual works in the publication, as well as early drafts of poetry and prose, to enable readers to experience the book outside of the page. This will continue on the following day on 27 November.
This event is part of Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival. Explore the city as Winter Tales pop up during three days of performances, workshops, markets and much more!
