28 – 30 August 2015
Preview: Thursday 27 August, 6-9pm
In early August 2015, six artists from OVADA visited Galerie Herold in Bremen, to exhibit new work made on the rail journey to Germany and during their time in the City. The work evolved during a four day exhibition, SENDER / RECEIVER, and included both individual and group work exploring themes of travel, journeys, waiting and exchanges. The project focuses on collaborative practice and skills-sharing between practitioners from the two artist-led spaces and also visitors to the exhibition.
Galerie Herold was founded in 1994 and three years later took residence in the ‘Künstlerhaus Güterbahnhof’ – a 36,000 SqM former freight station in central Bremen. Now more than two hundred artists, musicians and cultural workers of all kinds benefit from the unique centre of contemporary art, as the former train yard is used for work, rehearsal and production space in addition to hosting an international programme of Exhibitions, Events and Art Fairs.
Eight artists from Galerie Herold are visiting Oxford at the end of August to make and exhibit work at OVADA warehouse during a ten day residency. The artists will respond to the surrounding environment and make new work for their warehouse exhibition at the end of August.
The participating Artists from Bremen are: Marion Bösen, Harm Coordes, Johannes Ellmer, Fabian Klemm, Janis E. Müller, Matthias Ruthenberg, Anna Schilling and Susanne Katharina Willand. The artists will be available during exhibition opening hours to discuss their work, individual practices their and experiences of international exchanges.
The exhibition will also include a selection of work produced by the OVADA artists during their time in Bremen.
