The Janus Collective is an exciting collaborative project between Oxford Brookes University Art and Design Foundation students and the Ashmolean Museum, resulting in a pop-up exhibition of new work at OVADA.
Janus is the Roman God of Duality and Beginnings and is depicted with two heads; one looking to the past and one to the future. The title of the exhibition, chosen by the students, links to the work as each piece has been created by finding connections between two objects or aspects of the Ashmolean Museum’s wide-ranging collection. In the Museum there is a Roman pendant depicting a symbol for Janus and a drawing by John Ruskin about the temple of Janus.
