Unprecedented will be an exhibition of collective work created since March 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic hit. During the first lockdown we asked people from all over the world, young and old to contribute to the OVADA ‘Covid Quilt Project’. The project was open to anyone interested who wanted to create a 17cm quilt square in any medium. Our quilt will feature as the basis for this exhibition of work created during or in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We will also be exhibiting a digital quilt created by Art Refuge
Art Refuge uses art and art therapy to support the mental health and well-being of people displaced due to conflict, persecution and poverty, both in the UK and internationally. Now, we are offering art as a thread to connect us with each other and offer hope and ways of coping through the coronavirus. Finding ways of coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and the community around you stronger.
Alongside the two quilts the exhibition will feature work by artists carefully selected by curator Sarah Mossop from an open call looking at how artists have continued to work during the pandemic.
‘Unprecedented’ will be part of Oxford Artweeks and will be a celebration of the gradual reopening of art spaces, showcasing the resilience of all artists and arts organisations.
We anticipate the exhibition being held virtually but if we are able to open during May we hope to do so.
