Art at work – an installation in progress, in collaboration with Warrior Studios, London.
During a month long residency in the warehouse space at OVADA, artists from Warrior Studios will be collaborating on a multi-media installation inspired by and referring to the Hannover Merzbau of Kurt Schwitters. It will be an investigation into collaborative processes in the conception, planning and production of an artwork. As a kind of 3D Exquisite Corpse it will grow organically and intuitively with a combination of preconceived, modular and freeform elements and construction methods with the rule that what is done cannot be undone.
The residency and development of the structure will be open to the public leading up to an exhibition (21 – 24 April 2016) of the completed installation to allow complete access to the creative process. The progress will be disseminated and documented on social media platforms including a time-lapse animation, blog and live feed.
Warrior Studios is a collective, currently of 12 artists, housed in a railway arch in South London, founded in the late 1980s. The Warrior artists have recently sought to work in a more collaborative way, exhibiting together and producing artists’ publications under the banner of Warrior Press.
Residency artists: Jane Campbell, David Degreef-Mounier, Phil Dobson, Hugh Gilmour, James Alec Hardy, Jez Jacobs, Gary Kempston, Duncan McAfee, Michael Rodgers, Pauline Smith, Mariya Ustymenko and Federica Dalla Vecchia
