Christmas Light Festival

The annual festive celebration draws in local communities and visitors into Oxford’s city centre and is a highlight of Oxford’s cultural calendar. The Christmas Light Festival includes light and sound installations, a festive market, music, dance and lots of free activities in venues across the city, taking place over 3 days:

Friday 15 November 12pm – 10pm
Saturday 16 November 10am – 10pm
Sunday 17 November 10am – 6pm

‘Discovery’, is the theme of this year’s festival inspired by scientific discovery and by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Be prepared to see Oxford’s streets and buildings in a new light as commissioned artworks and presentations colonise the city for this special weekend. Some of the town’s most iconic buildings open their doors for free festive events  while musicians, dancers and choirs appear on stages and in pop-up locations all over the city centre.

OVADA is delighted to contribute a newly commissioned light installation by artist, Jack Wimperis, which will illuminate the proceedings as the festival is launched by a lantern parade winding its way through the streets on the Friday evening. With large animated screens made from repurposed milk bottles, Jack Wimperis’ artwork highlights the issue of single-use plastic waste. Each bottle contains a colourful light that will help illuminate Broad Street!
